When it comes to protecting our skin from the sun's harmful rays, we rely on sunscreen to do just that. However, in recent years, many sunscreen brands in New Zealand have been found to be making false claims about their SPF protection, leaving consumers feeling misled and concerned. So what are we doing to make sure we meet our claims?
At Organic Matters, we take the accuracy of our SPF claims very seriously. We understand that our customers trust us to provide them with safe and effective sunscreen products, and we are committed to meeting or exceeding the standards set by the new Sunscreen Safety standard. To ensure that we meet our SPF claims, we do three things:
- We use only high-quality, non-nano zinc oxide as our UV active ingredient. This provides broad-spectrum protection without causing harm to the environment.
- We have our sunscreen products tested at an accredited laboratory to the AS/NZS 2604:2021 Sunscreen Standard. This ensures that our products meet or exceed the required SPF levels.
- We test every batch of our sunscreen products in-vitro to ensure that our sunscreen products are consistently effective. In-vitro testing is a way of checking our products in a laboratory setting to ensure each batch meets it's SPF claim.
We are proud to say that all of our products have been tested to the AS/NZS 2604:2021 Sunscreen Standard, and meet or exceed the required SPF level. We want our customers to feel confident in their choice to use Organic Matters sunscreen products and trust that they are getting the protection they need.
While it may be disappointing to learn that many sunscreen brands in New Zealand are not meeting their SPF claims, it is important to remember that not all sunscreen brands are the same. By choosing a brand that takes the accuracy of their SPF claims seriously and is committed to meeting or exceeding the new Sunscreen Safety standard, you can feel confident in your choice to protect your skin and the environment.
